Mechanical Dynamics & Analysis, Ltd. – St. Louis, MO

Work was recently completed on the first High-Speed Balance Facility in the St. Louis area, for power generating equipment, at Mechanical Dynamics & Analysis (MD&A). The facility was designed to be the one of the most modern balance facilities for power turbines in the United States with the ability to balance both steam and gas turbines as well as generator fields.  The project team was lead by Tarlton Corporation and included critical team members Corrigan Company for the mechanical work and Schaeffer Electric Company for the electrical work.  Key portions of work for Schaeffer included variable frequency drives and power for 8000 hp and 3000 hp motors, building addition, new Ameren 14 MVA substation, 15KV customer switchgear, (5) 15KV transformers, cooling tower, (3) UPS systems, extensive process control, vacuum penetrations, along with general lighting and power.  Schaeffer could not be more pleased with the team atmosphere throughout this project promoted by Tarlton and MD&A.  It took a strong collective effort to complete the project in the timeline required and it was exciting to be a part of that effort.

Washington University Mallinckrodt New Chiller & Switchgear

Congratulations to the project team led by Corrigan Company on the completion of the Washington University Mallinckrodt New Chiller & Switchgear.  This complex project took place in the basement of Mallinckrodt Center while students were on campus.  The primary purpose was to install a new 5kV Trane chiller.  Over the course of the project, Schaeffer replaced the existing 5kV gear lineup to power the new Chiller, replaced  a section of the existing 5kV substation which was suffering from water damage, and provided a new 3 section 1200A 480V distribution panel to power pumps, existing exhaust fans, and HVAC equipment.  Thank you to all those who participated in the scheduling and execution of this project.

Kirkwood Public Works Generator

Schaeffer Electric recently completed the Kirkwood Public Works Generator project. This was a 150KW single phase generator with a new 2000 amp Automatic Transfer Switch and Service Entrance Switch. The goal of this project was to back up one of the two services for the building allowing the Public Works department to function during an emergency. This project took place over 60 days with one shutdown for a single day to tie in the new generator. Thank you to all the personnel at the Kirkwood Public Works building for helping us make this a successful project. We look forward to many more projects with the City of Kirkwood.

President’s Message

Wow!  Has this year flown by!

As I begin my second year as President, I am thankful for so much and wanted to share a few thoughts as Schaeffer Electric continues to move forward.

We are now already two months in to our Fiscal Year 2013, and we’re off to a great start. Shortly, Schaeffer will begin work on a ‘spin cell’ which balances high speed turbines – one of only a few in the world. It’s unique to say the least, and we look forward to working with MD&A and Tarlton in building the facility. Vital projects for Mercy, Webster University, Elantas and others are ongoing.
