Robert (Bob) J. Schaeffer

We were saddened to receive the news last week of the passing of Bob Schaeffer on May 4.  Bob was the 4th oldest of the 17 Schaeffer children born to Carl and Eulalia Schaeffer.  After serving in the US Navy during the Korean War, Bob joined the family company in 1955 and worked as an electrician, estimator and Service Department  Manager before retiring in 1992.  He was also a co-owner of the Company from 1969-1988.  Bob was very dedicated to the success of Schaeffer Electric and would often stop by after his retirement just to make sure that things were running smoothly.  Quick with a smile and a laugh, Bob will be missed.

MD&A Turbine-Generator Repair Facility Addition – Project Update

Site electric and building underground work is progressing at MD&A in South St. Louis.  With such a small footprint, significant coordination has taken place to allow all the trades to meet schedule.  Thank you to all the trades and the design team for recognizing the proximity issues and keeping themselves and their coworkers safe.

There’s little doubt that, in the ongoing phase-out of inefficient incandescent lamps, the homeowner is the most uninformed, concerned and resistant of the electrical contractor’s customers. For the most part, these people do not read technical or trade publications but rely almost solely on consumer media—a source known in the past to have misrepresented more than one issue by oversimplification—for their understanding of the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007. President’s Message

Wow!  Has this year flown by!

As I begin my second year as President, I am thankful for so much and wanted to share a few thoughts as Schaeffer Electric continues to move forward.

We are now already two months in to our Fiscal Year 2013, and we’re off to a great start. Shortly, Schaeffer will begin work on a ‘spin cell’ which balances high speed turbines – one of only a few in the world. It’s unique to say the least, and we look forward to working with MD&A and Tarlton in building the facility. Vital projects for Mercy, Webster University, Elantas and others are ongoing.

Tips for Christmas Lights

NECA Australia posted these tips for Christmas time and we thought we could share them with all of our friends and customers.  Please take a quick look if you are planning on installing Christmas lights this year.

The seven electrical safety tips are:

1. Look up and around – When installing Christmas lights and other decorations make sure there are no overheard power lines or exposed wiring near where you are working. This is especially dangerous if working near metal.

If you notice dangerous wiring, contact your local licensed electrician so the problem can be fixed.
